I used to say that there is nothing greater in this world than man … that it is the ordinary human’s inability to cope with this truth that leads them to search for the immortal, all-powerful, developer called GOD (yes all caps). It is perhaps a human fallacy perhaps a human necessity to believe that there is a greater level, a greater platform to which he has to reach and it is the personification of this that becomes the thought GOD.
My favorite example was the industriousness of man that made the high rise buildings which served two purposes -
1. Dealt with the paucity of available land
2. made him feel like he could touch the sky.
Another favorite argument was that GOD made the mountain peaks so high and out of reach, but man made the aeroplane that helped him reach far above the mountains.
A new thought entered my mind a while ago: the mountains were the most beautiful and unreachable place that man pined to see - it was the Kailasa - the abode of Shiva, it was Shangrila - the most beautiful place on earth. It was heaven. Then the aeroplane helped us see how far above we could go and how beautiful that was and then the mountain lost a little of its beauty…

Maybe it was man who lost a little bit … A little bit of his humanity, a little bit of his ability to see and recognize beauty, a little bit of what made him the supreme creation …
A little bit of perspective.
